The Coast Guard is asking for the public’s help in identifying the owner of a green, two person kayak that was found about 3 miles off Ukumehame Beach on Monday.

Officials say mariners notified them of the adrift kayak this morning and that there have been no reports of anyone missing in the area.

“We always recommend waterway users write their contact information on their property,” Sector Honolulu watchstander Ashley Gray said in a press release.

“In the past four months, the Coast Guard has seen over 20 unnamed adrift personal watercraft and we treat each of those cases as if there is someone in trouble. If properly marked we can contact the owner quickly and identify the need for assistance.”

The kayak’s serial number is LPEO6863818. Anyone with information that could help identify the owner of the kayak is asked to call Sector Honolulu at (808) 842-2600.

The Coast Guard offers free “If Found” decals to mark gear through its auxiliary, at local harbormasters, from Honolulu Sail and Power Squadron offices and at select marine retails and supply stores.
