The Nisei Veterans Memorial Center will be hosting a new Lifestyle Workshops series on the third Saturday of each month.

“People make New Year’s resolutions to try something new, but with everyone’s busy schedules it is often difficult to keep those resolutions. That’s why we came up with the idea of monthly lifestyle workshops. There is no long-term attendance commitment. Each workshop lasts between 1 to 2 hours and is for all skill levels” NVMC executive director Deidre Tegarden said in a press release.

April’s workshop is dedicated to Chinese wellness and will be presented by Dr. Jeffrey Tice of the Longevity Health Center.

Dr. Tice will discuss the history of Chinese medicine and share simple self-help tools in the areas of food, massage, exercise, and meditation.

Tice began his journey into healthcare at the age of twelve with Reiki training. His education continued in high school when he overcame a debilitating battle with Crohn’s disease utilizing holistic and natural healing practices.

Further studies with a BA in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and an MS in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College in Santa Fe, led him to begin practicing Classical and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Tice has furthered his education with hundreds of hours of specialized TCM interests, including an apprenticeship in sports medicine, and has completed his doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. He believes in the full cycle of education: see one, do one, teach one; and therefore served as faculty of TCM at the World Medicine Institute in Honolulu. Jeffrey employs his broad knowledge and varied personal experience in supporting his patients with their integrative healthcare needs.

Tice’s workshop will be held on April 18 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the NVMC Campus’ Maui Adult Day Care Center Hall.

Admission costs $20 per person and reservations are required. Those interested in attending can register by calling the NVMC at 244-6862.
