Maui Marine Sanctuary Closed Over COVID-19 Concerns

Amid mounting concerns over the spread of the coronavirus, the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary has shuttered its sites.

The organization has not yet announced when the center will reopen.

“For the health and safety of our guests, volunteers, and employees, and as a precautionary measure to limit the spread of COVID-19, our sites will be closed until further notice,” the organization posted on its Facebook page.

“We will continue to reassess the situation. We understand this closure is an inconvenience and apologize. Our top priority is the health of our guests, as well as the staff and volunteers who support our activities.”
