COVID-19 Forces Temporary Closure of Maui Ocean Center

The Maui Ocean Center has decided to temporarily close its doors to the public amid the COVID-19 pandemic, effective March 18. The center’s closure will be through the end of May 2020.

The marine animals at the Maui Ocean Center will continue to receive care by the center’s team of exhibit curators, divers and aquarists.

“The Maui Ocean Center is equipped with a robust life support system that provides 24/7 support for the marine animals and exhibits. This system, designed with failsafes to withstand natural disasters, will not be impacted by the closure,” a press release statement read.

The center announced that since the onset of COVID-19, it has enhanced its sanitation and will continue to do so through the closure.

The Maui Ocean Center will be deep cleaning its facilities and follow recommendations set by government authorities such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in order to provide employees a safe and sanitized workplace during the closure.
