The Maui Family YMCA (the Y) announced that it will be closing its doors beginning Friday, March 20 at 8 p.m. until further notice.

The Y released their statement a day after Maui Mayor Victorino’s announcement of a public health emergency on Maui County due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Y will continue to provide limited childcare for healthcare workers, first responders and “essential” employees protecting the community.

“The Y has always been a community resource and during this time it didn’t seem right to just close without doing something to help. In addition, I know how important it is to continue a healthy lifestyle at this time and the Y is offering digital wellness options,” said Mike Morris, the Y President/CEO.

While the Y’s doors are closed, the organization said that it wants to continue as a resource for workers who need to be at work and those that seek to maintain their health and well-being. The Y on Maui will be providing childcare information on their website and workout videos on Y360.
