Senator J. Kalani English (Hāna, East and Upcountry Maui, Moloka‘i, Lāna‘i and Kaho‘olawe) expressed his thanks to Bank of Hawai‘i for keeping the Hāna branch in operation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sen. English says that through his prompting in discussions with the bank, the branch on the island’s east side will remain open during this health crisis.

Bank president and CEO Peter Ho said in a statement Monday that the temporary streamlining of branch operations due to the novel coronavirus would result in the closing of 39 of their 68 banks across the state and the West Pacific region.

“Because we are so remote, and it’s the only bank in the region, we’re especially pleased with the bank’s decision to continue to help serve our town’s residents and businesses,” said Senator English. “This will also lessen the spread of the virus, since people wouldn’t have to make the long trip to Wailuku or town to do their banking.”

Other branches in Maui County – specifically those in Kahului, Kīhei, Kaunakakai, Lahaina, Lāna‘i, and Pukalani – will also remain open.
