Barbara Laskowski

Barbara Laskowski

June 17, 1949 – March 14, 2020

Barbara Laskowski, age 70, of Kapaʻau, Hawaiʻi passed away at her home on March 14 after a long period of chronic illness and a short acute illness. Barbara leaves her husband of 44 years, Dennis Boyd, and her daughter Tessa Boyd, both of whom also live in Kapaau, sister Susan Laskowski of Stony Brook NY, and sister Jackie Pepe and mother Ceil Laskowski of Sanford, Florida.

Barbara put herself through undergraduate and graduate school and graduated with a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Northeastern University in Boston and much later achieved certification as a Spiritual Director from the Vincentian Center for Spirituality and Work in Denver, Colorado. With unbounded entrepreneurial confidence and a $500 credit card advance she founded Denver-based Centennial Rehabilitation Associates in 1979 and grew the company to a three-state, multi-employee enterprise over 30 plus years. As President and Clinical Director of Centennial she championed innovative multi-disciplinary rehabilitation techniques and was named the 2004 Outstanding Woman in Business in Health Care by Denver Business Journal. “My work makes my heart soar. This is what I was put on earth to do”, Barbara commented in an article accompanying that award.

Barbara’s passions included her family, drum corps (I know, go figure!), her dogs, Frankie and Mac, conchology (the study of seashells – acquired in Sanibel, Florida where she lived for several years) and all things jewelry. A memorial service will be held locally at a time in the future and Barbara’s ashes will be spread in the Gulf of Mexico off Sanibel, a special place for her. Though nothing can replace the void in our hearts created by Barbara’s passing, we appreciate and are uplifted by the thoughtful support that has been offered by family and friends.
