UH Maui Courses Go Virtual

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, University of Hawaiʻi Maui College’s Office of Extended Learning & Workforce Development is transitioning many of its face to face workforce trainings into new online courses.

The Marine Naturalist training with instructor Hannah Bernard will be offered online via Zoom on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 21 to 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants may register online here.

Tailored for tour boat crews, naturalists, and ocean enthusiasts, the Marine Naturalist course offers an overview of some of Hawaii’s protected marine life, their basic biological needs, distribution and how to assist in their protection.

With an increased need for security guards in Hawaiʻi during the crisis, a Security Guard Training will be offered on Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. online via Zoom. Participants may register online here. The training meets the State of Hawaiʻi requirements for security guard training.

High school youth programs to explore college and career pathways will also be offered online beginning in June. Sponsored by the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation and the Native Hawaiian Education Association, the tuition-free courses lead to industry certifications in careers including Certified Nurse Aide, renewable energy, carpentry, coding and digital design.
