Traditionally, the Hawaiian Immersion 4th graders take a 3 day Oʻahu field trip to enhance Social Studies curriculum around state history. They visit places like ʻIolani Palace, Nuʻuanu look out, Maunaʻala - the Royal Mausoleum, Bishop Museum, just to name a few and furthermore participate in protocol to honor these sacred places and our aliʻi. They also visit another Hawaiian Immersion school to help build relationships across our ocean with other keiki who also speak Hawaiian. This field trip is a huge learning opportunity and core memory for the students of the program.
With this huge opportunity comes a huge price tag, especially with the rise of cost of airfare, bussing, lodging, and everything else. The Nā Leo Kākoʻo non-profit group covers the cost for all of the expenses this field trip requires in order to ensure the opportunity is provided to all without a financial burden on individual families. We are looking at funding 50 kids for this off island field trip at the end of the school year.
Ke Kula Kaiapuni o Maui ma Pāʻia, Class of 2032, is humbly asking for your help by dining and drinking at Ocean Vodka on Aug. 18th, from 4-7 PM. Ocean Vodka will then donate 10% back to sales to our field trip fund. Please present the flier upon ordering to participate in this wonderful fundraiser.
