Salary Commission votes to raise Mayor’s salary, but dials back pay for managing director and deputy

This morning the Maui County Salary Commission rescinded its two-week-old decision on pay raises for the mayor, managing director and deputy managing director. Then, it recalibrated raises for those top leadership positions, using as a benchmark a recent Hawaiʻi State Salary Commission pay raise for Gov. Josh Green.

Standing room only at Maui County Council inauguration; former chair not participating

It was standing room only at this morning’s Maui County Council inauguration for the 2023-25 term during a ceremony at the county building in Wailuku. Noticeably absent from the lineup of incumbents, though, was Alice Lee, who previously held the Wailuku-Waiheʻe-Waikapū residency seat and who led council as chairwoman in the most recent term.

Maui Public Works Director Applicants Sought

The position was offered to Rowena Dagdag-Andaya, who declined, for now, saying she thinks the best person for the job, David Goode, had already applied.
