A 39-year-old Lahaina man was arrested for allegedly violating the rules and orders outlined in Mayor Richard Bissen’s 13th Emergency Proclamation Relating to Wildfires, issued on Dec. 5, 2024.
Landlords now required to file affidavit for lease termination exception
Following Gov. Josh Green’s signing of the 11th emergency proclamation relating to wildfires, signed into law on May 3, 2024, a landlord who wishes to terminate a lease before its effective date can only do so for two reasons, and must submit a signed affidavit to the County of Maui Department of Housing and Human Concerns, Housing Division.

Hawaiʻi Attorney General Anne Lopez is urging owners of real property in Lahaina and Kula ZIP codes 96761, 96767 and 96790 to make formal reports of any unsolicited offers that were not asked for or requested to purchase an interest in that property.
