Deadline for Maui County Agriculture Micro Grant nears, Nov. 30

Maui Economic Opportunity reminds small farmers and ranchers that the application deadline for the Maui County Agricultural Micro Grant Program 4.0, which offers up to $25,000 in grants, is about a week away.

Maui County small farmers and ranchers can apply for grants of up to $25,000 through the Agricultural Micro Grant Program 4.0, a $3 million initiative funded by Maui County and administered by Maui Economic Opportunity’s Business Development Center.

Agricultural Micro Grant informational meetings, Oct. 12 and 13

Two informational workshops on the Maui County Agricultural Micro Grant Program 3.0 will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, at MEO Family Center in Wailuku and Thursday, Oct. 13, at Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani.

Drought Results in “Primary Natural Disaster Area” Designation for Maui

On April 12, the US Drought Monitor reported that 98.3% of the state was abnormally dry or drier. Maui and Kalawao counties were designated as a natural disaster area on April 20, 2016, making all qualified farm operators in the locations eligible for low interest emergency loans from USDA’s Farm Service Agency, provided eligibility requirements are met.

Ongoing Maui Drought Leads to USDA Disaster Designation

The US Department of Agriculture designated Maui County as a primary natural disaster area due to losses caused by an ongoing drought.
