Four residents were displaced following a house fire in Haʻikū that destroyed a two story home on Thursday afternoon.

Haʻikū Home Fire Sparked by Smoking Ember

Fire officials say the house fire was sparked when an ember fell on the bed and ignited a foam mattress pad.

Fire Results in $60,000 in Damages to Haʻikū Home

“The fire which started on the lānai consumed about 20% of the structure before being brought under control at 5:18 p.m.,” said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga, who noted that the cause is still under investigation.

Fire Burns Unoccupied Wooden Home in Haiku

The fire was first reported at 3:21 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012 at a 2,000 square foot wooden structure located at 460 Haiku Road, authorities said.
