Friends of Haleakalā National Park seeks volunteers for service trip, March 16-18
The Friends of Haleakalā National Park seeks volunteers who are enthusiastic and fit for a strenuous overnight service trip from Sunday to Tuesday, March 16 to 18, 2025. These National Park Service volunteers will tent camp in the Hōlua Wilderness Area camping area in Haleakalā Crater.
Crater Road fire at Haleakalā still at 80% containment headed into Day 10
The Crater Road fire at Haleakalā remains at 80% containment as firefighting efforts enter a 10th day on Saturday. The fire started on July 10, blocking access to the Summit District of Haleakala National Park and putting Upcountry communities on edge nearly a year after the devastating wildfires of 2023.
Haleakalā National Park closures due to severe weather
The Summit District of Haleakalā National Park and the Pīpīwai Trail in the Kīpahulu District are closed due to severe weather effective Dec. 18, 2022 at 4 p.m. All sunrise reservations on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, have been canceled.

In 2020, 319,147 people visited Haleakalā National Park. Compared to visitation in 2019, visitation was down by 67.9% (675,247 fewer visits).
