Maui Public Art Corps is introducing Little Free Art Galleries in Makawao town as a way to foster community through art.
$30,000 National Endowment for the Arts Grant for Maui’s Hui Moʻolelo program
The County of Maui announced that it has been awarded a prestigious Grants for Arts Projects Award in the amount of $30,000 by the National Endowment for the Arts. This grant will support the County’s Hui Mo’olelo program, a collaborative initiative in partnership with Maui Public Art Corps and Hale Hōʻikeʻike at the Bailey House/ Maui Historical Society.

In the wake of the challenges posed by the wildfires, Maui Public Art Corps collaborated with students across the region to channel their emotions and reflections into a powerful visual representation of unity and strength. “The result is a vibrant collection of drawings that encapsulate the indomitable spirit of the Maui community,” organizers said.
Public salon series aims to elevate community and conversation
The first of the series will be a talk story with Naomi “Sissy” Lake-Farm, Executive Director of the Maui Historical Society/Hale Hō’ike’ike at the Bailey House. She will be joined by Kelly McHugh-White of Maui Public Art Corps. Both women have been active in the Wailuku Town revitalization movement through the SMALL TOWN * BIG ART initiative.

Beginning on Monday, June 14, a hui of four Maui-grown artists: Alexandra Underwood, Amanda Joy Bowers, Bailey Onaga and Courtney Chargin, will begin painting a collection of three pieces that will serve as the temporary construction wall surrounding the Wailuku municipal parking lot.

SMALL TOWN * BIG ART unveiled its latest public art in Wailuku: large-scale replicas of three oil painted portraits by Maui-based artist Avi Molinas. The painted portraits are of Wailuku icons Hōkūlani Holt, Judge Noa (Auwae) Kepoikai and Rose (Daniels) Kepoikai.
