#La Perouse Bay

The hiker, identified as a 73-year-old woman visiting from Portland, Oregon, was rescued from a trail in the lava fields south of La Perouse Bay in Mākena.

Rescue crews on board the fire department’s Air-1 helicopter located the teenager, along with two females and a male on the Hoapili Trail, also known as, “The Kings Highway,” roughly two miles east of the parking area at La Perouse Bay.

Maui Electric will be upgrading power lines along Mākena Road near Big Beach to La Perouse Bay from Monday, April 2 to Thursday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 2:30p. 

The Coast Guard is seeking the public’s help identifying the owner of an adrift orange dive float found 500-yards off La Perouse Bay, Maui Thursday.

Visitors to the ʻĀhihi-Kīnaʻu Natural Area Reserve and Keoneʻōiʻo or “La Perouse Bay” area are advised of renovation that will result in limited parking and traffic delays.

The US Coast Guard has suspended its search for a possible missing kayaker today, “pending further developments,” after a full day of efforts proved unsuccessful.

There is a nice straight south swell on its way to the islands, adding to an already memorable summer season.

A south swell is lighting up certain spots, but the wind and big tidal swings have made things funky for the most part.

Few expected this south swell to hang around for as long as it has, nor that it would stay the same size – for the most part.

This particular swell was more of a southwester, meaning that the west tilt made it miss some spots not facing west like Ma’alaea, while other spots thrived with the more favorable direction.

With perfect tides, the conditions all aligned perfectly to make this swell one for the ages this past weekend — and it still continues.

The south swell has finally arrived and is showing signs of possibly being one of the best swells of the whole summer.
