Michael Petersen was sworn in Friday as deputy director of the County of Maui Department of Environmental Management. Before joining the County, Petersen served as Operations Manager for Waste Pro Hawaiʻi in Kīhei.

The County of Maui’s Household Hazardous Waste program has expanded to provide services to residents on Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi.

All County of Maui landfills (Central Maui, Molokai, Lānaʻi and Hāna) will be open normal hours on Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24, the Department of Environmental Management announced.

The Maui Department of Environmental Management reminds residents that Tuesday, Nov. 3, is General Election Day and the following solid waste services will observe holiday hours as follows:

Due to the anticipation of tropical storm conditions, refuse collection services for Hāna, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi for Wednesday (9/12/18) will be rescheduled to Friday (9/14/18).

The county’s E-cycling program will no longer accept a list of items including DVDs, VCRs, phones, cameras, projectors, CD players, amplifiers and speakers.

The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division, announced that due to staffing issues, residential refuse on a collection route in Lahaina was not picked up on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016. Due to insufficient staffing, the Hāna Landfill will close at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 27, through Saturday, April 30, 2016.

Due to insufficient staffing, the Hāna Landfill will close at 1 p.m. on Feb. 9, 11, 18, 19 and 20, 2016 and the Lānaʻi Landfill will close at 1 p.m. Feb. 19 and 20, 2016.

The County of Maui’s Department of Environmental Management announced that the hours of operation for the Central Maui Landfill, Olowalu Convenience Center and EKO compost will be changed on August 19, 2011 due to the Statehood Day Holiday.

All County of Maui offices will be closed on Friday, August 20, 2010 in observance of the Statehood Day holiday.
