Five new physicians have joined Kaiser Permanente’s Maui Lani Medical Office in Wailuku, including four internal medicine physicians and one pediatrician.

Telehealth proved critical in the pandemic, pushing the federal government to allow Medicare coverage for more services in more areas. But those flexibilities will end for patients in some areas unless Congress acts by Sept. 30.

Maui Health Foundation’s Housing for Healthcare initiative is accepting interest from healthcare professionals for 31 transitional housing units in Kahului, including 16 brand new, 4-bedroom, single-family homes, and 15 accessory dwelling units (‘ohana units). Homes will be available for lease at below-market rates to healthcare professionals working in Maui County. Preference will be given to eligible healthcare workers displaced by the Maui wildfires.

“We never got a generator because we knew way back when if we ever had a major catastrophe of that significance all our physicians would report to the hospital because it’d be that severe,” Maui Medical Group Administrator Cliff Alakai said in explaining why the clinics would have to shut down if they lost power under Hawaiian Electric’s new plan.

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii – Maui’s largest OB-GYN department – yesterday announced the expansion of its maternity services across the Valley Isle.

Maui Medical Group is temporarily relocating its Lahaina clinic to the Napili Plaza Shopping Center due to damage sustained during the Aug. 8 fire.

According to the organization, Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center will focus on supporting access to Lahaina and the community in West Maui. In partnership with the Hui No Ke Ola Pono, Mauliola Pharmacy, Maui Medical Group and the Maui District Health Office, Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center will provide outpatient access from the Lahaina Comprehensive Health Center.

Kīhei-Wailea Medical Center and Maui Medical Group have joined Maui Health, which includes Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Lānaʻi Community Hospital, in mandating the COVID-19 vaccine for all eligible employees and providers.

The Department of Water Supply scheduled a water valve replacement project that will result in road closures and leave some customers without water in Wailuku from 11 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19 through 5 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20.

Maui Medical Group has temporarily amended their hours of operation for their five clinics due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Ernest Lee has joined the otolaryngology team at Maui Medical Group, bringing extensive medical and surgical experience in ear, nose and throat disease and disorder treatment.

Maui Medical Group today announced the addition of Dr. Chasity Edwards to their Obstetrics/Gynecology care team.

Dr. Cook is a graduate of St. Anthony Junior Senior High School on Maui, and was born and raised on the island of Maui.
