Coast Guard, agency partners transport ailing man from Maui to Oʻahu
The Coast Guard and Hawaiʻi Life Flight medically transported an ailing 58-year-old man from the Maui Memorial Medical Center to the Straub Medical Center on Oʻahu, Monday. The man had suffered cardiac arrest while on Maui and was in need of transport with advanced critical care.

Maui Health holiday toy drive supports employees, families experiencing difficulties
Maui Health’s Medical Staff Office is launching a special Holiday Toy Drive on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023, to support the children and families of Maui Health’s employees and physicians affected by the recent wildfires on Maui, and other families who have faced challenges this year. Donations will be accepted at Maui Memorial Medical Center’s circular driveway, adjacent to the main lobby entrance, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Maui Health donates 4,600 pounds of turkey and rice to Maui Food Bank
Maui Health continued its annual holiday tradition of giving by donating more than 4,600 combined pounds of turkey, vegetarian roast, and rice to the Maui Food Bank. The donation was delivered on Monday, and included nearly 250 frozen turkeys and vegetarian roasts, and a full pallet of 15-pound bags of rice.

Kaiser Permanente Hawaiʻi announced the hire of four new doctors to its staff of more than 700 health care providers in the state, including one member who joins the team at Maui Memorial Medical Center in Wailuku.
Maui hospital treats burn and smoke inhalation patients during Maui wildfires
Maui Memorial Medical Center has been treating burn, smoke inhalation, and other fire-related injuries as a result of the Maui fires since last night. As of Wednesday afternoon, all patients have been cared for; five have been admitted, including two for critical injuries. Additionally, since last night, seven patients have been transferred to Oʻahu for specialty services, including some fire-related injuries. All other patients have been treated and released.
MPD L.I.Y.T. program to help youth with basic needs, mental illness, substance abuse
The Maui Police Department’s C.O.R.E. Unit launches its inaugural Project L.I.Y.T. (Live In Your Truth) Program. The program’s objective is to assist young individuals, ages 14 to 24, who may or may not be unsheltered, dealing with mental illness, substance abuse, and/or are at risk.

Nearly 500 frontline healthcare workers at Kaiser’s Maui Health System have voted to ratify a new three-year contract, ending a nearly two-month strike.

The planned Clinical Decision Unit will add 12 observation beds, including a specific area for patients with chest pains, allowing physicians and staff to monitor patients who do not meet the criteria for inpatient admission but are not well enough to go home.
