Gov. Josh Green, M.D., has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, May 4, to honor the 70 firefighters who died in 2024 and the 70 firefighters who died in previous years.

This action is taken to honor the 89 firefighters who died in 2023 and the 137 firefighters who died in previous years. One of the firefighters died in the line of duty was Tre’ Evans-Dumaran from the County of Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety.

This action serves to honor the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. President Biden proclaimed Oct. 3-9 as Fire Prevention Week to pay respect to our brave firefighters and first responders who put their lives at risk daily for their fellow Americans.
