With New Year’s celebrations approaching this week, the Maui Humane Society is urging pet owners to take proactive steps to protect their animals from the stress of fireworks.

The iconic oceanfront destination will transform into a glowing neon playground where luminous color, high-energy beats, and unforgettable midnight moments collide to welcome 2026 in electric style.

Maui County will host two public aerial firework displays this year—one at the Grand Wailea Resort and another at the Four Seasons Resort Lānaʻi—according to an announcement from the Maui Fire Department. Both displays begin at approximately 11:59 p.m. on New Yearʻs Eve, Dec. 31, 2024.

Gov. Josh Green is giving state employees 16 hours of paid administrative leave “in recognition of the upcoming holiday season,” according to an announcement from the Office of the Governor.

There will be two public aerial firework displays in Maui County for New Year’s Eve–one at the Grand Wailea Resort from an offshore barge; and the other from the Four Seasons Resort Lānaʻi in the “laydown area” of Mānele Bay.  Both displays are scheduled to start at approximately 11:59 p.m.  

The service is available from 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, until 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1 and offers a free tow home of up to five miles for an individual and their vehicle instead of driving while intoxicated.

An estimated 60 people attended a meeting focused on illegal fireworks, what’s is being done to curb their impact and import as well as enforcement on Maui.

Over a 24 hour period beginning New Year’s Eve at 3 p.m., the Maui Fire Department responded to 12 total fire related calls.
