The National Weather Service is forecasting a “vigorous cold front” to bring strong southwest winds and thunderstorms to the islands late Sunday through Monday.

Tropical Storm Frank is expected to become a hurricane in the next few hours, but “both storms are still well to the east and do not post any threat to Hawaiʻi in the next several days,” according to HI-EMA.

The NWS says that based on the latest guidance, the low will continue to track westward across Maui County and the center may pass just south of Oʻahu this afternoon, and then move south of Kauaʻi this evening.

At 2:46 p.m., radar indicated heavy showers falling over the northern slopes of the West Maui Mountains and Haleakalā.

The weakening Flossie has been downgraded to a Tropical Depression and will move near the main Hawaiian Islands Monday through Tuesday

There is a Flash Flood Watch in Effect for the western half of the state from tonight through Wednesday afternoon.

Due to potential inclement weather, several County of Maui events scheduled to be held on the island of Molokaʻi this week have been canceled until further notice.

Guillermo continues to weaken, with the current forecast showing the potential for Tropical Storm force winds arriving as early as 7 a.m., Wednesday on Hawaiʻi Island. The Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency offered preparedness advice to assist residents and visitors in advance of the storm.

At 11 a.m. HST, Hurricane Guillermo was 785 miles east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaiʻi moving toward the west-northwest at 10 mph, and is beginning to weaken. Maximum sustained winds were last tracked at 90 mph.

The Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency continues to work with emergency management and civil defense partners to monitor Hurricane Guillermo, which was 1325 miles east-southeast of Hilo at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2015.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center has reclassified Ela as a tropical depression.

he National Hurricane Center has officially classified an organizing low-pressure system east-southeast of Hilo as Tropical Depression Four-E.

Maui County Civil Defense and Mayor Alan Arakawa have announced the all clear for residents as the tropical storm warning for the county was canceled this afternoon. Tropical Storm Iselle dispersed after hitting the Big Island last night and stopping the storms progression to Maui; however the Mayor still urged caution in the coming days.

Twenty-four hour rainfall totals ending at 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, show more than 14 inches of rain at Saddle Quarry and Kulani; more than 12 inches of rain at Hakalau and Puaakala; and 13.9 inches in the Glenwood area.

As of midnight last night, there were a total of 231 individuals at eight shelters in Maui County. County offices remain closed today, with the exception of the County Clerk’s Office, which is open and receiving absentee ballots until 2 p.m. today.

“Iselle still remains a threat. That’s what I’m trying to emphasize out there — that as folks wake up and it seems a little breezy and there are some showers out there, the idea is that we could still get these sudden gusts, and still the potential for flooding …”

The National Weather Service says radar at 1:23 a.m. showed moderate to heavy rain along the windward slopes of Haleakalā. Additional rain bands will continue to move over east Maui over the next several hours.

On the topic of winds: “It’s going to be an event where no part of the state is going to be spared. We can expect the same or similar impacts throughout the state at least through Friday evening.”
