High Wind Warning issued for Haleakalā on Maui and Big Island summits
On the Big Island summits, southwest winds of 50 to 70 mph will increase to 60 to 80 mph Tuesday. On the high summit of Haleakalā on Maui, southwest winds will build to 45 to 55 mph tonight and increase to 50 to 60 mph Tuesday.

West wind gusts will increase to 50 to 70 mph on the summit of Haleakalā and 60 to 80 mph on the high summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island.

Maui Forecast Calls for 60 mph Gusts Prompting Wind Warning
The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning, which remains in effect until 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, with winds blowing from the NE at 30-45 mph, and localized gusts expected to be blowing at up to 60 mph.
Strong Winds Continue at Haleakalā Summit
Forecasters say east winds over Haleakala will be 30 to 35 mph with localized gusts over 45 mph. The strongest winds are expected over exposed ridges.

Wild weather on Maui forced a suspension of play on opening day of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, power outages in Olinda and Haleakala, downed trees and branches across the island, and blustery conditions at the higher elevations.
