Alternative Transportation Topic of Community Meeting

The Kihei Community Association June 21 meeting will explore the bus transportation and creating a cycling and walking friendly community.

Current “hot topics” include the rapidly growing Maui Bus system, the completion of the first segment of the Kihei bikeways is scheduled for completion in July, and discussion are underway regarding expansion of a more comprehensive Kihei bikeways.

County Department of Transportation Director Jo Anne Johnson Winer and Charlene Shubuya from the State Department of Transportation will be the featured speakers. A question and answer session responding to concerns from the community will be held following presentations.

Additionally, the Kihei Community Association’s June 21 meeting will feature brief updates on recent legislative happenings from Maui County Council member Don Couch and South Maui State representative George Fontaine.

The public is invited to “talk story” at 6:00 PM before the presentation which will begin promptly at 6:30 PM. Food donations for the Maui Food Bank encouraged.The Kihei Communication Association meeting are normally held on the third Tuesday of each month at the Kihei Charter Middle School, 41 E Lipoa.
