FedExCup Champions Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas and Billy Horschel are set to return to The Sentry when the PGA TOUR’s Opening Drive begins at The Plantation Course at Kapalua from Jan. 2-5, the tournament announced.

The Hawaiʻi State Junior Golf Association | First Tee – Hawaiʻi (HSJGA|FTH) conducted the 2024 Tour Championship at Wailea Emerald Golf Course this weekend Dec. 7-8. This event was 36 holes and by invitation only. A total of 57 junior golfers from across the state teed up in the event. This tournament was the final event that awards points to the season race to the coveted HSJGA | FTH Player of the year.

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College will host the first-ever international Academic Esports tournament, welcoming student teams from six countries for the week-long competition. From Friday, Dec. 13 to Wednesday, Dec. 18, gamers from Korea, United Kingdom, Australia, Norway, Germany, Austria, and UH Maui College’s own esports team will face off in popular titles like Valorant, League of Legends, and Rocket League. A special team from Maui High School will also compete. 

Local firefighters, lifeguards, police, and military personnel are set to compete in the inaugural First Responder & Military Honolua Classic surf competition, co-sponsored by OUTRIGGER Kā‘anapali Beach Resort and Kahākūkahi Ocean Academy.

The Sentry has announced Nick Dunlap, Austin Eckroat, and Robert MacIntyre have committed to play in the opening event of the 2025 PGA TOUR Regular Season when it returns to The Plantation Course at Kapalua from Jan 2 through Jan. 5.

The tournament will be the largest event that the Maui Rugby Union has ever taken part in, and they will be among the youngest competitors.

The 2024 Kaʻapuni Basketball Tournament begins Thursday, Dec. 5, with games hosted at Baldwin High School’s Jon Garcia Gymnasium and Seabury Hall’s Erdman Athletic Center. This year’s tournament will run through Saturday, Dec. 7 and once again features both defending HHSAA State Champions, St. Louis in Division I and Kohala in Division II.

A masterclass in approaching Haleiwa unfolded in Quarterfinal Heat 3 of the World Surf League’s The Hawaiian Islands HIC Haleiwa Pro, featuring standout surfers Joshua Moniz (HAW), Kauli Vaast (FRA), Ian Gentil (HAW), and Kainehe Hunt (HAW).

Anessa Riglos, a standout golfer from HP Baldwin High School’s Class of 2025, has signed a letter of intent to play golf at Tennessee State University in Nashville.

“It feels awesome. I feel exhilarated. I feel happy for our kids. These are great young men that we get to coach,” Kamehameha Maui head coach Ulima Afoa said.

The championship game of the Maui Invitational college basketball tournament takes place today at the Lahaina Civic Center. No. 4 Auburn takes on the University of Memphis at noon HST. The came will be carried on ESPN. Today’s games will also be carried on local radio via ESPN Maui | AM 900 | FM 102.5.

Maui Preparatory Academy is proud to announce Christopher Salem has signed a Division I National Letter of Intent with the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa under the leadership of Head Golf Coach Scott Simpson.  

The 40th Maui Invitational tipped off at the Lahaina Civic Center on Monday, marking its return to the Valley Isle following the August 2023 wildfires. The final month of the FedExCup Fall saw Rafael Campos and Maverick McNealy earn their first PGA TOUR victories to become the most recent players to qualify for The Sentry, while Austin Eckroat picked up his second win of the 2024 season. The Plantation Course at Kapalua once again plays host to The Sentry for the PGA TOUR’s Opening Drive, Jan. 2-5, 2025.

The Kamehameha Schools Maui football team beat Roosevelt 60-26 on Saturday to advance to the Division II state championship game against Kaiser for on Nov. 30 at Mililani High School on Oʻahu.

The Maui Invitational has been away from the Lahaina Civic Center for three of the past four years. It returns with an impressive field next week.

The Fundamentals First held an Inaugural Golf Tournament on Oct. 12 at The Dunes at Maui Lani golf course, successfully raising funds to support a general fitness and sports performance training program for youth, high school and collegiate athletes to maximize athlete potential.  

Three Seabury Hall student-athletes national letters of intent to play college sports. They are: Victoria Osborn, Women’s Soccer at Metropolitan State University Denver; Trey Cerizo, Men’s Soccer at Cal Poly Humboldt; and Tyler Loree, Men’s Golf at UCLA. 

With less than 50 days until the 2025 PGA TOUR Regular Season begins at The Sentry at The Plantation Course at Kapalua, the event is partnering with Mauna Loa to provide kama‘āina tickets at special prices when the TOUR’s Opening Drive returns from Jan. 2-5.
