Maui All-Stars Watch Hometown Hero
By Fred Guzman
Members of the Central East Maui All-Stars took advantage of an off day in the Little League Western Regionals by attending Tuesday’s game at Dodger Stadium to watch hometown hero Shane Victorino play for the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 11- and 12-year-olds, along with their entourage, were treated to a memorable outing. Left-hander Cliff Lee struck out 10 and allowed four hits over eight scoreless innings. Lee also helped his own cause with a homer in the 2-1 win.
Victorino had a single in three at-bats to keep his season average at a highly respectable .310 as Philadelphia improved baseball’s best record to 76-40. Philly is on a pace to win 106 games.
Fortunately for the Maui contingent, Victorino appealed a three-game suspension levied against him by Major League Baseball for his role in a recent brawl in San Francisco. He is allowed to play until the appeal is heard.
