By 7 a.m., power was restored to most areas affected by an outage that occurred when a vehicle sheared a utility pole during an early morning accident in Kahului.

Maui Electric Company spokesperson, Kau’i Awai Dickson said the only area that will continue to have an extended outage is the portion of South Papa Avenue where the accident occurred.

Residents along South Papa, between Kea Street and Lani Circle will be the last area brought back on-line.

The accident was reported at around 5:45 a.m.  Crews remained on scene at last report

Many customers in Kahului are without power this morning following a motor vehicle accident that sheared a Maui Electric Company utility pole.

The accident was reported at around 5:45 a.m. on South Papa Avenue between Kea Street and Lalani Circle.

At 6:25 a.m., MECO crews said they had crews on scene working on power restoration.

Crews from the Maui Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene where power lines were hanging onto the road.
