The Kamehameha-Maui girls extended their MIL volleyball win streak to a record 51 matches last night.  The Warriors reached the milestone with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-21 sweep of visiting Maui High, which set the previous record during a span starting in 1989 and running through 1993.  The victory enabled Kamehameha to claim the MIL regular-season title with a 10-0 mark and clinch a berth in the state tournament.

FOOTBALL:  The MIL football campaign resumes this weekend.  Tonight, ninth-ranked and Division-I leader Baldwin takes a 4-0 league mark on the road against D-II Kamehameha-Maui, which has a 1-3 record.  Tomorrow, it’s a battle between  D-I teams with 1-3 records, Maui High will visit King Kekaulike.  Both gmes are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts and will be aired on ESPN 550.  Lahainaluna, which leads the D-II standings at 3-1, has a bye this week.

GOLF:  Sam Cyr of Makawao opened up a two-stroke lead midway through a Gateway Tour Championship golf event in Arizona by following up an opening-round 65 with a 69 yesterday.  Cyr’s 8-under 134 put him two on three players tied for second place. Cyr was a two-time NAIA national champion at Point Loma Nazarene.
