A 22-year-old Lahaina man was airlifted out of Makamakaole trail on Maui yesterday after falling and injuring his back.

The incident was reported at 12:35 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12 in an area near mile marker 8 of the Kahekili Highway.

Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said the male hiker and four of his friends were about 45 minutes into the trail when the incident occurred.
