A 24-year-old Kahului man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly cut his roommate on the arm with a knife during a scuffle at their residence, police said.

Bail for Kevin Kanakanui was set for $2,100. He was charged with second-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening, interfering with reporting of an emergency and abuse.

The incident was reported to police at 1:37 a.m.

As Kanakanuiā€™s roommate was calling police to report the altercation, Kanakanui threw down the phone and disconnected the call, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division.

Rego said the roommate told officers that he was cut on his right arm after getting into a fight and scuffling with Kanakanui.

Kanakanui still had the knife when police officers responded to the residence on Hookui Street, he said.
