Concert Features Hawaiian Music Institute Inaugural Class

Students from University of Hawai‘i Maui College’s Institute of Hawaiian Music will present their final performances of the year tonight.

They will join students from the UHMC Chorus in the presentation scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s McCoy Studio Theater.

Students from the Institute’s inaugural class will graduate this Sunday, May 12, where they will be issued an Academic Subject Certificate in Hawaiian Music.

School officials say the IHM students recently recorded a ten-song compilation CD, Pukana, which celebrates the establishment of the IHM program, and the upcoming graduation.

Tonight’s performance will include selections from the CD as well as other Hawaiian standards; while members of the UHMC Chorus will reportedly perform hits by Bruno Mars, Adele, Owl City and songs from the television program “Glee”.

Ticket prices for tonight’s event are $12 plus applicable MACC fees, and are available for purchase from the Maui Arts and Cultural Center Box Office.
