An 8,080 gallon wastewater overflow occurred at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, in the vicinity of the Kahului Pump Station, county officials confirmed today.

The overflow reportedly originated from a small hole in the force main, according to officials with the County Department of Environmental Management.

Authorities say the wastewater mixed with rain was contained in a water catchment area along Hāna Highway, approximately 100 feet from the corner of Hobron Avenue, and was stopped by 8:30 p.m.
