A 12-year-old boy is safe after being rescued while windsurfing in waters near Kanahā Beach in Kahului on Thursday.

Fire officials say the incident was reported at 4:40 p.m. about 100 yards offshore.

Rescue crews with the Fire Department were called to the scene for a report of a windsurfer who lost his sail at Ka’a Point.

The windsurfer, described as a 12-year-old boy from Japan, was brought safely to shore by crews aboard a fire ski rescue watercraft and reunited with his mother, according to department reports.

Authorities say no medical attention was required.

Unless he has a lot of experience a twelve year old visitor should probably not be out there alone….a local boy is different, they grow up in the ocean….
