Spay and Neuter Cat Clinic by Maui Humane Society, Feb. 9-10, 12-13

In response to the community’s ongoing need for a low-cost spay and neuter program for their pets, the Maui Humane Society will be offering free surgeries for cats on February 9, 10, 12 and 13.

Residents are encouraged to bring both tame and feral cats for the free spay and neuter surgeries.

The free clinics support Maui Humane Society’s goals of providing longer and healthier lives to pets and managing Maui’s pet overpopulation problem.

In addition to the free surgery, all cats will receive a microchip at no cost. A microchip helps locate the owner and reunite a cat with their family should they become lost. The value of these services can range anywhere from $200 to more than $400.

The objective for the four-day clinic is to sterilize 150 cats per day, for a total of 600 sterilizations. To accomplish this, Maui Humane Society will continue working with volunteer veterinarians and vet techs from all over the country trained in quality, high-volume Mobile Animal Surgical Hospital (M.A.S.H.) style sterilization clinics. This productive partnership resulted in the successful spaying and neutering of 2,216 dogs and cats last year.

Maui Humane Society will also be working to trap and sterilize feral cats in areas where cat populations are most concentrated. The efforts to fix these community cats will ensure that over time stray cat populations will decrease. Residents who are interested in helping trap and sterilize feral cats are asked to contact Maui Humane Society for information on how they can assist.

As a part of its concentrated effort to reduce Maui’s pet overpopulation problem, a free clinic for dogs will also be held in March.
