Unscheduled Cane Fire in Pāʻia

An unscheduled cane burn was reported on Saturday morning, Feb. 27, 2016 in a field above the Pāʻia Gym off of Baldwin Avenue on Maui.

The incident was reported at around 8:45 a.m. and burned an estimated 1-acre of sugar cane.

Fire officials say that although the closest home was just 100 yards away in the Skill Village subdivision, no structures were immediately threatened.

The cause of the fire was undetermined.
