Pickup Truck Found in Burn Area of Pāʻia Fire

Firefighters from Station 2 in Pāʻia responded to a report of a brush fire in fallow sugarcane fields east of Holomua Road at approximately 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016.

Upon arrival, fire crews requested the assistance of Air 1 to do water drops while access to the area was established.

Firefighters found a 50- by 100-foot area of brush involved and a pickup truck within the burn area.

The fire was extinguished at 2 p.m., and has been classified as undetermined at this time.

Maui fire department Acting Public Information Officer, Captain Paul Haake said the fire appeared to originate from the vehicle.

The determination of the vehicle’s owner and status is being handled by the Maui Police Department.
