Maui Electric Company will be hosting its annual Rummage Sale to benefit Maui United Way this Saturday, June 21, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at its Kahului auditorium, located at 210 West Kamehameha Avenue.
All proceeds from the sale will benefit the nonprofit Maui United Way organization, which will in turn assist the 40 health and human service partner agencies it serves throughout the county.
“The funds raised by such company-driven events enables our organization to give a helping hand to those in our community who need it the most,” said Laksmi Abraham, Maui United Way president and chief professional officer in a press release.
“Working with Maui Electric over the years is a true demonstration of our ongoing efforts to strengthen our community and enrich people’s lives through caring partnerships,” said Abraham.
Last year, Maui Electric was recognized by Maui United Way with a Campaign of the Year award for its efforts in raising more than $60,000 for the organization.
The funds were raised through several events held throughout the year including the popular Keiki Tilapia Fishing Tournament, internal lunch fundraisers, and other company efforts.
“Our employees look forward to donating, coordinating and spending their free time at these events that benefit the Maui United Way every year,” said Sharon Suzuki, Maui Electric president in a statement. “Maui is home for us too, so our employees are firm believers in taking care of their community and the people in it,” she said.
The rummage sale is open to the public. Maui Electric Company is also accepting donations of gently used household items to help with the sale. To coordinate drop off of donations between Wednesday, June 18 and Friday, June 20, the public can call (808) 872-3216.
