Maui Crime, Feb. 7–13: Burglaries, Break-Ins, Thefts

The owner of a dark grey 1995 Toyota pickup truck reports that the vehicle was stolen last night. The pickup was last seen at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, on S Alu Rd in Wailuku Heights. The License plate is: LBW862. This particular case will be published in the next edition of our Maui Now crime log since it occurred after the reporting period.

Maui police responded to 15 burglaries, 11 vehicle thefts, and 11 vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period, between Feb. 7 and 13, 2016.

Of the 11 vehicle thefts, four of the vehicles have since been recovered.  The incidents were reported in Kula, Kahului, Wailea, Lahaina, Haʻikū, Waikapū and Makawao.

Burglary incidents were down to 15 from the 17 incidents reported the week before. The greatest number of burglaries reported was in Kahului where there were four incidents reported over seven days.

Vehicle break-ins were down by nearly half to 11, from the 20 incidents reported the week before.  The greatest number was in Kahului and Lahaina, with three incidents reported at each location.

Kahului:

  • Monday, Feb. 8, 1:34 p.m.:  200 block of Ani St. Residential, forced entry.
  • Monday, Feb. 8, 5:17 p.m.:  Ala Luina St at Kahului Harbor, aboard the cruise ship “Pride of America.” Residential, unlawful entry.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1:50 p.m.:  Alehela Pl. Residential, unlawful entry.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 10, 9:42 a.m.:  Hansen Rd at Spanish Rd at the HC&S metal yard.  Non-residential, attempted burglary.

Kīhei:

  • Sunday, Feb. 7, 7:08 p.m.:  115 E Līpoa St at Kīhei Maui Self Storage.  Non-residential, unlawful entry.
