The DLNR Division of State Parks is hosting an open workshop meeting on Thursday March 14, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku for attendees to discuss their insights, concerns and recommendations directly to project staff on improvements made to ʻĪao Valley State Monument.

The following proposals discussed will be new entry and additional accessible parking stalls and aisles. Infrastructure improvements, which would include water system and sewer system upgrades. Comfort station improvements with new roofing and fixtures. Parking area improvements, including a proposed expansion of the existing parking areas. Also slope stabilization upgrades along Kinihapai Stream.

Project designs are in progress and will be anticipated for completion in 2019 with construction likely to start in 2020. Park closures are being planned during construction to ensure the safety of park users and project staff. The 2017 Hawaii State Legislature appropriated $3,000,000 for these improvements.
