A small, 1-acre brush fire was quickly brought under control last night near the Luana Gardens apartments in Kahului. The incident was reported at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012, off of Kamehameha Avenue in an area of brush.

Coast guard and fire department crews on Maui ended an ocean search and rescue after a boy, reported missing overnight, made his way to shore safely. The search was initiated at 3:41 a.m. when a report was made of a fishing boat that sunk about a mile off of Pauwela point in Haiku.

Emergency responders assisted with two separate incidents on Wednesday in which individuals were pulled from waters off of Maui. In the first incident, authorities say an 83-year-od woman was pulled from the water fronting the Hale Pau Hana in Kihei.

CERT training includes basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. When emergencies happen, CERT members can be called upon to give critical support to professional first responders by providing immediate assistance to victims at a disaster site.

A 21-year-old woman from Jacksonville, Florida was immobilized when her friend fell 50 feet and landed on top of her during a hike in the hills above Honokohau in West Maui on Thursday, April 12, 2012, officials said. The incident was reported at 4:46 p.m. in the area sometimes referred to as the Three Sisters or Chutes and Ladders near Mile Marker 37 of the Honoapiilani Highway.

A 20-acre brush fire that was first reported on Saturday morning near Kahului Airport, was called extinguished at 9:10 p.m. on Monday.

When units arrived, they discovered smoke coming from an emergency generator, with no flames, and quickly brought the situation under control.

Marine salvage operations at Wahikuli Beach Park will result in the partial closure of the parking lot for the rest of the week. The partial closure begins today and is expected to end on Friday, February 17, 2012.

An air and land search was launched this afternoon for an individual reported missing on Maui. A neighbor contacted authorities at around 12:19 p.m. today saying the individual failed to show up from kayaking.
