Looking for Halloween events on Maui? Here’s a list of fun activities from cruises and concerts to kid-friendly festivities and pumpkin patches.

Queen Kaʻahumanu Center launched its inaugural 808 Bash on Aug. 24, bringing Maui together in celebration of community. Organizers say the success of this event has set the tone for what is hoped to become a new annual tradition for the island.

A Super Reefs Open House will be held from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. today at Maui Ocean Center Marine Institute. The event will feature short talks, demonstrations, touch tanks and refreshments.

PacWhale Eco-Adventures has announced that Marty Dread, known as Hawaiʻi’s Reggae Ambassador, will return to its bi-weekly Friday sunset cruise, starting Aug. 2.

Maui Ocean Center will host its inaugural “Marine Science Night” from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 27, highlighting ocean-themed careers, internships and volunteer opportunities.

From July 11- 25, shutterbugs of all levels are invited to enter the Whale of a Photo Contest, a fundraiser for Pacific Whale Foundation. Each submission is accompanied by a $10 donation; multiple entries accepted. All funds raised directly benefit Pacific Whale Foundation Conservation, Outreach, Research and Education programs.

Pacific Whale Foundation has announced a free community event for kids and families on this year’s World Ocean Day.

Select movies from the Pacific Whale Foundation’s 8th annual World Whale Film Festival fundraiser will be presented June 6 at the OCEAN Organic Farm & Distillery, according to an announcement.

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College’s Student ʻOhana for Sustainability (SOS) club is partnering with Maui Huliau Foundation and Hulihia to host its annual Earth Day celebration on the campus Great Lawn and back parking lot on Monday, April 22 from 3 to 6 p.m.

Volunteers counted a total of 855 whales throughout the state Saturday during the third coordinated event held this season. Similar counts held earlier this season resulted in a total of 2,124 whales observed on Jan. 27, and 2,141 whales observed on Feb. 24, 2024.

Pacific Whale Foundation, a Maui-based nonprofit dedicated to marine conservation, started two separate funds in response to the August 2023 wildfires on Maui: the PWF Maui Community Relief Fund and the PWF Maui Conservation Fund. These funds are designed to provide crucial assistance to the community and ocean. 

Pacific Whale Foundation and PacWhale Eco-Adventures are highlighting two of their programs to celebrate National Dolphin Day on Sunday, April 14, 2024.

There were a total of 2,141 whales observed throughout the main Hawaiian Islands during the day’s count with 948 whales observed from Maui, 86 from Molokaʻi and 39 from Lānaʻi. On Kaua‘i, the total number of whales observed during the count was 239, on O‘ahu, the total was 363, and on Hawai‘i Island, 466 whales were observed.

A whale calf spotted in distress off of Māʻalaea Bay on Maui Friday, is likely suffering from blunt force injuries caused by a vessel strike, according to researchers with the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary.

Humpback whales travel over 3,000 miles to reach their breeding grounds in Hawaiʻi. This month, the Pacific Whale Foundation challenges participants to travel just 1% of that, in a global fundraising effort.

Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will host the February edition of its “Know Your Ocean Speaker Series” featuring Susan Frett of Pacific Whale Foundation, on Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

In 2024, HTA is partnering to provide more than $7.5 million in total funding to support 163 nonprofit organizations, community groups, practitioners, projects and events throughout the state.

A total of 2,124 whales were observed throughout the state during the Great Whale Count and Ocean Count held Saturday, Jan. 27. Organizers say this number may represent duplicate sightings of the same whale by different observers or at different time periods or different locations throughout the day.

After paddling miles and hours on the ocean, two kayakers ended up off the shore of Launiupoko, and there it was: a humpback mother whale “tail sailing” beside her calf.

Following the Maui fires, PacWhale Foundation’s Conservation team, Research team, and Eco-Adventures crew created the Mauka to Makai program to help restore the health of Maui’s land and sea.
