Lahaina Cannery Mall will host the 2009 West Maui Safety Fair on Saturday, February 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than a dozen local, state and federal agencies will share information on crime prevention, disaster preparedness, public health, personal safety, and children and senior resource information.

Participating organizations include Civil Defense and CERT (emergency preparedness), Maui Police Department (child safety seat inspections), Maui Fire Department (child identification cards), Maui Electric Company (electrical safety, energy conservation, renewable energy), Department of Water Supply (water conservation), U.S. Coast Guard (marine safety), Office on Aging (senior safety), Maui County Hotel & Resort Security Association (visitor safety), Red Cross (emergency safety) and the University of Hawaii, Dept. of Agriculture (food safety).

Event entertainment will include whaling songs and pirate music from the San Diego-based musical group “Raggle Taggle” at noon, followed at 1 p.m. by keiki hula from Te Tiare Patitifa.

The interactive, educational event is sponsored by Lahaina Sunrise Rotary Club, Lahaina Cannery Mall, Maui Electric Company and the County of Maui.
