Maui Police question suspect in political sign snatching case
Maui Police questioned a suspect in a sign snatching incident that occured on Sunday, in which a middle-aged man is seen on surveillance tape taking an Alan Arakawa for mayor campaign sign from private property in Wailuku.
The crime is being investigated as a Petty Misdemeanor Theft IV punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or a $100 fine if convicted.
Captain Jody Singsank with the Wailuku Patrol Division said the case has since been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office. Because there is no arrest or conviction at this time, the name of the suspect is not available for release.
Over three days, the video drew more than 600 views on our own MauiNOW.com website. The same surveillance tape posted by Arakawa’s campaign manager was viewed more than 1200 times on Youtube.
