If you need emergency care in Hawaii, look no further than the Pali Momi Medical Center and Straub Clinic and Hospital on Oahu. Both of these health facilities recently received “Excellence in Patient Care” awards from the Studer Group. The Studer Group is a health care improvement firm based in Gulf Breeze, Florida. The awards were based on a number of factors, including results of patient surveys conducted by Press Ganey, a national organization that evaluates emergency rooms across the country.

Both Pali Momi and Straub received high marks in patient satisfaction on the Press Ganey surveys. The awards were received in the category of emergency rooms that see between 20,000 and 40,000 patients each year. Of the 1,700 emergency rooms Press Ganey evaluates each year, both facilities ranked in the top 90th percentile of emergency rooms nationally over a 14-month time span.

About Pali Momi Medical Center

Pali Momi is a nonprofit hospital in West Oahu that boasts the second busiest emergency room in Hawaii. This center is renowned for its Team Triage program, in which  patients are seen promptly by doctors and then triaged for the appropriate care. The approach Pali Momi takes has resulted in much shorter wait times for patients – a common complaint in many busy emergency rooms throughout the country.

In addition to its emergency services, Pali Momi also provides a host of other medical services and currently has the only interventional cardiac catheterization unit in Oahu. This facility has also been recognized by the American Heart Association, receiving the organization’s Gold Award for excellence in the treatment of coronary artery disease. The hospital also offers some surgery services, CT and MRI diagnostic services and the island’s first retina center.

Straub’s emergency department prides itself on its strong commitment to patient care, even following up with patients after they have been released from the hospital. The team works to establish relationships with every patient that comes through their doors, upping the bar on the standard of patient care and showing availability to answer questions and holding patients accountable for following their treatment protocols.

Straub was founded in 1921 and is now a fully integrated nonprofit healthcare system. The hospital offers a wide network of community clinics, as well as a wide range of specialists to accommodate nearly all their patients’ needs. It is also home to the only multi-disciplinary burn treatment center in the Pacific region. Patients can get services in more than 32 medical specialties, including gerontology, urology and endocrinology. The hospital strives to keep up on the latest innovation and technology in the medical field, so patients rest assured they are receiving the highest quality of medical care available today.

To win this prestigious award, medical centers must demonstrate outstanding, consistent performance in patient care. The award recipients are nominated by Studer Group coaches and the final selection is made by the senior leaders of the firm. This year, the organization gave out 49 such awards to medical facilities across the country.
