Forecasters Monitoring Out-of-Season Tropical Storm Omeka

The National Weather service is monitoring an off season tropical storm located about 1200-miles plus west of Kauai.  Tropical storm Omeka is moving toward the northeast near 17 miles per hour and is expected to turn north-northeast during the next two days.

The system has tropical storm force winds that extend outward up to 50 miles from the center.  Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts.  Forecasters anticipate weakening of the system over the next 48 hours.

According to the forecast track, Omeka will likely be downgraded to a Tropical Depression well east of Midway Island in about 30 hours.
