DLNR Hearing on Conservation District Rules, Jan. 24, 2011

The state Department of Land and Natural resources holds its second series of public hearings on proposed conservation district rule amendments.  The Maui meeting takes place today, January 24, 2011, at 5:30 p.m. at the Paukukalo Community Center.

The Molokai hearing will be held next Monday, January 31, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Pau’ole Community Center in Kaunakakai.

The state Office of Conservation and Coastal Lands (OCCL) is responsible for overseeing approximately 2 million acres of private and public lands that lie within the conservation district.  This includes beach and marine lands out to the seaward extent of the State’s jurisdiction.

Based upon public input received during the first round of public hearing in August 2010, OCCL has made revisions to the first proposed draft amendments.

State officials hope the second round of hearings will help to improve efficiency of the department and help to better address natural resource conservation to benefit both landowners and agencies.

Public hearings on other islands will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the following locations:

• Jan. 25, 2011: Hilo, Hawai‘i at the Hawai‘i County Council Room, 25 Aupuni St.
• Feb. 1, 2011:  Lihu‘e, Kauai at the Lihue Library, 4344 Hardy St.
• Feb. 7, 2011:  Kona, Hawai‘i at the Mayor’s Conf. Room, Rm. 103
• Feb. 9, 2011:  Honolulu, O‘ahu at the Kalanimoku Bldg.,Rm. 132
