An estimated 10,100 gallons of wastewater overflowed in Spreckelsville on Maui over the weekend.

The incident was reported at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Laulea Place.  County authorities say the overflow was due to a mechanical failure at the Spreckelsville Pump Station.

The overflow was stopped by 9:30 a.m.  According to county officials, the wastewater overflowed from a manhole fronting the Spreckelsville Pump Station, and flooded 245 feet of roadway on Laulea Place.

None of the wastewater reached the ocean.  The malfunction was corrected, the site was disinfected, and the Department of Health was notified.
