Ziggy Marley and Inner Circle To Play Maui
By Madeline Ziecker
Reggae music icon Ziggy Marley will be joined by Maui’s reggae rockstar Marty Dread and the acclaimed group Inner Circle in a concert at the MACC on Sunday, March 25 at 5 p.m.
Inner Circle and Marty Dread will open the show.
Ziggy Marley, the oldest son of reggae idol Bob Marley, is appreciated almost as much as his father for his chart-topping reggae hits that are performed internationally.
Marley has won five Grammy Awards and has released six popular solo albums since 2003, including his 2011 album, Wild and Free, which he is currently celebrating on tour.
In addition to recording and performing some of the best reggae music of today, Marley also finds time to be an active humanitarian.
Marley’s consciousness of human struggle appears in his music, where his lyrics reflect ideas of freedom and peace.
Jamaican masters of old-school reggae, Inner Circle, will join Marley in concert with some of their popular tracks, including their 1992 hit “Sweat” (A La La La La Long).
The band released the catchy song “Bad Boys” in 1987, made especially popular by appearing in the main title for the TV show COPS.
Today, Inner Circle consists of five members, Ian Lewis (bass, vocals), Jr. Jazz (vocals, guitar), Bernard Harvey (keyboard, vocals), Lancelot Hall (drums), and Roger Lewis (guitar, vocals).
For those who haven’t heard of Maui’s reggae man Marty Dread, he is known across the “valley isle” and beyond for spreading positive vibes with local hits like “Another Day In Paradise” and “Ooh la la Pure Aloha.”
Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 on the day of the concert. VIP tickets are $65 in advance and $75 on the day of the show; they include side-stage access as well as designated bars and restrooms. Tickets can be purchased by calling the MACC Box Office at 242-SHOW or online at MauiArts.org.
