The Makena Beach & Golf Resort is expanding its “Winery of the Month” series to “Wineries of the Month.”
The first event of May – featuring Sonoma County’s Murphy-Goode Winery – takes place tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.
It will be held on the resort’s beachfront Maluaka Lawn and features a beach barbecue theme.
The outdoor lineup of fare includes Makena’s South Maui Barbeque Baby Back Ribs with jalapeño corn bread and borracho baked beans paired with Murphy-Goode’s Zifandel.
Next up is a prosciutto-crusted Hapu’upu’u with polenta, morel mushrooms butter broth and an asparagus salad accompanied by Murphy-Goode’s Chardonnay.
The final course will bring a Kona Lobster and crab salad with baby heirloom tomatoes, avocado, edamame and blueberries with a Big Island citrus vinaigrette alongside the winery’s Pinot Grigio.
Winemaker David Ready Jr. will be in attendance to speak about the wines being served. Growing up in Minneapolis, Ready Jr. went to California with dreams of becoming a rock star. Once there, he worked the crush at Murphy-Goode, and soon realized that he had a wine-maker’s palate.
In 1997, was named assistant winemaker and by 2001, Ready Jr. became Murphy-Goode’s winemaker. You can sample what he’s been up to tomorrow night.
The event is $80 per person (not including tax or gratuity).
