Makena Resort Hosts Traditional St. Patrick’s Day Revelry
By Vanessa Wolf
This coming Monday, March 17 marks the annual return of the wearing ‘o the green, the eating o’ the corned beef and the (likely) over-consumption o’ the FD&C Yellow 5 and FD&C Blue 1 (aka green food coloring)-dyed beer.
Consider celebrating in style with Makena Beach & Golf Resort who promises to “transform into the ultimate location for a traditional St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, complete with customary Irish comfort food plus lively music and dancing from an authentic Irish Band and dancers flown in directly from Ireland.”
Head to the resort’s Molokini Bar & Grille to experience a traditional Irish a la carte menu featuring Emerald Isle favorites like Lamb Stew, Shepherd’s Pie and the Irish-American standby Corned Beef and Cabbage. There will also be Irish-inspired dishes like Creamy Potato Leek Soup and Irish Cream Chocolate Cheesecake, as well as specials on drinks like Irish coffee and Guinness.
Declan McCarthy, the resort’s Irish-born general manager commented, “The Makena Beach & Golf Resort, and I especially, are excited to help share a big part of Ireland’s culture with Maui by way of the traditional Irish Dance Troupe, the Polka Paddy’s.” (Editor’s note: “Paddy’s” (apostrophe ‘s’) is not a typo; rather the band name appears to be part of a longer known phrase where that would be grammatically correct.)
Direct from Dublin and current “All-Ireland Champions,” the Polka Paddy’s features 16 traditional dancers and musicians. The dancers perform traditional Irish dances like light reels and “fast-paced gigs” as well as a nod to River Dance.
In addition, traditional songs – Danny Boy, anybody? – will be played on accordion, concertina, bodhran and flute and are “fused together with the melody of folk song.”
The holiday dinner selections and musical entertainment is available from 6:30 – 8 p.m.
